  • + Character…Foundational to Leadership

Yes, + character!  Character can be - or +.  We have identified 36 different character qualities.  These are the specific behavioral indicators of the kind of person we are in relationship to other people.  Those behaviors can be lacking (-) or can be one of our behavioral strengths (+).

Whether you are discussing abilities, interests, or character…everything about us needs intentional development.  We are not just “naturally” a strategic thinker.  We understand what strategy is all about.  We make a decision that we value effective strategy.  Then, we learn how to develop that skill and build that habit into our lives.

It is no different with character.  We understand the idea of respect, for example.  At some point we make a decision whether or not to value the idea of respect.  If we value it, we begin to build that value into every attitude…every word…and every action in relation to people around us.

We always get concerned about competency and capacity with the leaders we have decided to invest in and develop.  Let’s add character to the framework of effective leadership.  It must also be developed.
